Down To The Sea

Angus & Julia Stone

“Down to the Sea” is about the beauty of nature and our inability to take responsibility for the harm we’re causing.

Why we wrote this song

“We wrote this song as a dedication to the beautiful nature we’re surrounded by in Australia. Having lived in rural NSW and Tasmania, and travelling the country throughout our career, we feel a deep connection to the land we’re fortunate enough to live and work on, and we are forever inspired by the beauty and power that nature and the environment around us holds.”

About us as artists

Angus & Julia Stone are an acclaimed sibling singing/songwriting duo whose music spans intimate folk and dreamy indie pop, captivating audiences worldwide since their formation in 2006. They have released six albums, including their breakthrough success Down The Way, featuring the single ‘Big Jet Plane’, which has amassed over 600 million streams, and earned the group 5 ARIA Award wins, #1 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 and a #1 ARIA Album Chart debut.

Whilst the duo predominantly self-produce their records, they have also worked with the likes of Rick Rubin on their acclaimed self-titled LP. With over 20 years of international touring under their belts, building a loyal and ever-growing global fan base, their most recent sold-out international tour for the album ‘Cape Forestier’ marked a milestone—bringing their music to South and Central America for the first time. Ahead of a new record landing in 2026, Angus & Julia are bringing old and new songs to the stage.

About the music video

“In the music video, we wanted to highlight the beauty of the environment in different ways – the elegant nature of a beach at sunset, but also the powerful beauty of weather, waves and animals.”

The environmental organisations we admire or support

During the bushfires, I created Songs for Australia with artists from around the world, including Angus’s project Dope Lemon. We got to raise money and awareness for the incredible environmental groups we believe in. Proceeds from the record went to Firesticks Alliance, which is reviving and strengthening cultural fire practices; WildArk, dedicated to protecting land and safeguarding biodiversity; Landcare, which empowers communities to restore and care for the land; and Seed, the First Nations Emergency Leaders for Climate Action. We also love the work that the Bob Brown foundation do.
