In The Water
Pierce Brothers
A song about the feeling of freedom in the ocean.
Why we wrote this song
“In The Water is a love letter about finding solace in the ocean, and escaping to clear your mind among the waves.
We grew up in a surfing family and spent a lot of time in the ocean, and around water.
The bridge “You Gotta Open Up Your Eyes” was a call out to take notice of the beautiful world around us, and how precious it really is. “
About us as artists
Twin brothers Jack and Patrick Pierce, known collectively as the Pierce Brothers, have been an unstoppable force in the Australian indie-folk/blues & roots scene for several years. From their humble beginnings as buskers on Melbourne’s Bourke Street, where they shared the streets with other notable acts like Tash Sultana and Tones and I, the brothers quickly became a must-see act, showcasing their high-energy performances and captivating stage presence.
Their musical journey has been one of evolution, culminating in a top 15 ARIA debut album and two Top 10 ARIA EPs, accompanied by an impressive 30 million global streams. The duo achieved a significant milestone by headlining a packed Forum Theatre in their hometown of Melbourne and embarked on a massive world tour, headlining venues across the globe and supporting artists in arenas. They’ve graced the stages of major festivals in North America, Europe, and Australia, leaving an indelible mark wherever they go.
About the music video
“The implication being that the boy’s IMAGINARY FRIEND has travelled across these distances within the mirror to hang out with him. This is all happening from the boy’s mind, as he’s playing in the mirror at home. A call back to the children’s book “Where The Wild Things Are”.
It follows an IMAGINARY FRIEND walking through nature on a quest, then he’ll come across THE BOY and we’ll imply that it’s his IMAGINARY FRIEND. use a big dancers mirror in these cool locations as well to get some beautiful imagery and do a kind of seeing the cardboard-man in himself sort of vibe. I’m thinking we’ll use his father as the monster and it’ll be a really cute but cool looking video.
It begins with walking through the Big Drift, then through to the Warburton Redwoods, and eventually to the end up in a rock-pool by the end of the music video. At about 2 minutes, once he hits the redwoods, he will appear in the mirror of our hero, THE BOY. THE BOY will be wearing a rudimentary cardboard outfit, shield and sword in the woods, with the mirror.
Main delivery of the lyrics are from PATRICK as he sings the song, whilst underwater himself.
PAT & JACK sing the song in their suits, then jump off the rockpool 8.5m into water. We will capture that from above/behind them, a drone shot, as they land in the water and with 2 wide shots.
Then we finish on THE BOY and his IMAGINARY FRIEND at the beach watching the sun go down, and then THE BOY is there alone, after his IMAGINARY FRIEND has shown him these beautiful locations, it’s now his job to protect it.
It was shot and edited by two of the songwriters, Patrick Pierce and Dara Munnis, and directed by Patrick Pierce.”
