Sacred Ground
Wildheart
An important environmental message with powerful lyrics that urge audiences to listen.
Why we wrote this song
Wildheart front man and proud Yugambeh man Axel Best brought forward an issue that he believed was not receiving publicity that he felt Wildheart could raise awareness for. This was in response to a November 2021 ABC article that showcased documents released under Freedom of Information laws detailing that the NT Government had negotiated changes in water rules so Fortune Agribusinesses could build one of Australia’s largest fruit farms. Traditional Land Owners were not consulted, and environmental groups warned of the damages likely to be caused.
Wildheart firmly believe that Traditional Land Owners must be consulted in decisions affecting their land and that we must look after and care for the Earth that we inhabit.
About us as artists
Wildheart passionately advocate for open conversation and action surrounding mental health, social injustice, and discrimination.
Fronted by Proud Yugambeh man, vocalist Axel Best strikes home their message with authority and savage lyrical delivery. Wildheart have gone from strength to strength, which has earned them their place on the Australian music festival stage, playing numerous sold out shows across Queensland, and performing alongside both heavyweight local and international acts.
It’s easy to see why they’re fast becoming one of the most well-known heavy acts in Queensland, with their take on metalcore noted by Alex Calan of Hysteria as “simultaneously a breath of fresh air and a healthy dose of nostalgia” and Triple J’s Josh Murriel naming Wildheart “one of the best bands running around Brisbane”.
Wildheart are taking on an incredibly important role in speaking up on the issues affecting their communities and the people around them.
About the music video
“Sacred Ground” directly relates to the health of the environment and the sustainability of current practices that governments and corporations are engaged in. Wildheart wanted to feature beautiful aerial footage shot in the Northern Territory by William Thomson, and have James Latter capture at VENTspace the ferocity of their live performance to demonstrate urgency of the song’s message. Wildheart believe it is important that these underrepresented NT communities are supported and feel heard, and hope they can use music to help this and represent them in the heavy music community. The result at the Australian Federal election was an overwhelming vote for the environment, and Wildheart are proud to stand with and support this message with “Sacred Ground”.
