Tangerine
Ocean Alley
A vivid meditation on love, nature, and escape, guided by ocean tides and glowing skies.
Why we wrote this song
Tangerine was born from a road trip across the Nullarbor with our wives and dogs. The long straight roads, the isolation and the different landscapes were intense and amazing. There was such contrast between the red dirt and crystal blue ocean. Seeing parts of the desert and sunsets on that commute, the sky turning orange, or tangerine, is what really inspired this song.
That journey captured the magic of Australia’s landscapes — the vastness, the colours, the feeling of being small within something so powerful. The song is a celebration of those natural contrasts and the sense of renewal they bring. Tangerine is ultimately about connection – to nature, to each other, and a reminder that the environment holds beauty worth protecting.
About us as artists
Ocean Alley has truly emerged as one of Australia’s most successful musical exports. Across four albums to date, the six-piece – Baden Donegal (vocals), Angus Goodwin (guitar), Lach Galbraith (keys/vocals), Mitch Galbraith (guitar), Tom O’Brien (drums) and Nic Blom (bass) – have inspired audiences around the world with their unmistakable sound.
About the music video
The Tangerine video captures the vast, raw beauty of the landscapes we travelled through while on the road in North America. We wanted the environment to feel like a character of its own, shaping the atmosphere of the song. Driving through Montana, we stumbled across a saloon in Reed Point — a town of only 175 people — and decided to film there.
The intimacy and character of the space contrasted perfectly with the expansive scenery around it. We then explored the sandstone cliffs near Billings, using their dramatic textures to mirror the song’s shifts in mood. Continuing north on our way to the Calgary Stampede, we paused in Lethbridge, where the sunset and the striking Viaduct Bridge gave us a sweeping backdrop.
By weaving together these authentic, lived-in environments, the video reflects both the vastness and intimacy that inspired Tangerine.
The environmental organisations we admire or support
